Almost everyday of the week Michael is at his cleaners making sure that everything is working the way he wants it. Whenever he is not there he is constantly in contact with his managers. During hard economic times you can certainly hear his usual reminder to his partner and plant manager, Viet, after the daily recap at close of each business day “Just take care of the quality of the clothes and everything else will be ok”. Getting out of Vietnam in a 25’ fishing boat with nothing more than the clothes on their backs Michael’s family first landed in Virginia in 1975. The following year they moved to Houston. And he has been here ever since.
Among a few escapees in that small fishing boat was his aunt Minh-Tam who soon after opened her own drycleaner Mink’s DryClean USA in Houston which has been a staple of high quality and consistency since 1978. She had recently retired.
The original DryClean SuperCenter on Eldridge Pkwy in the Energy Corridor was one of the most successful dryclean plants in Houston and the model operation that has since been copied and replicated all over the country. It was owned by Nhon (pronounced Nam) and Julie Bui and they gave uncomparable top-notch customer service. Due to Julie’s allergy to the Houston weather they had to move to Virginia. Nhon’s biggest concern was to be able to find another operator as caring as he to take care of his dear customers.
When Michael showed up with an offer Nhon knew that he had found the right successor. Nhon was pleased to see that Michael truly cared about the employees, the workplace environment, the quality of the clothes, and his customers. Michael brought on board his long time friend Viet, who was legendary known for his hard-working habits and ethics, to be his partner and plant manager. Another plus to the business was the beautiful and stylish Cindy with her impeccable taste and very good sense of business.
In October of 2008 the name has been changed from DryClean SuperCenter to Cindy’s Cleaners. Everything is still the same. Same owners. Same great team of dedicated employees. Just a new name. Why Cindy’s? the name sounds more personal, more local and that is the type of brand name we would like to build our business on within our community.
At Cindy’s, we make it easy to do your dry clean and laundry right from your door.
